Devonian limestones with large mineralized vugs.
Located near Steeden, about 6 km NE of Limburg.
The locality is divided into four different quarries. Only one of these four is still active.
The oldest one is situated in the northwest of Steeden village, here are also the office buildings. At the northeastern end of the village one can find quarry number two. This quarry is right now a protected refuge for the eagle owl.
Quarry number 3 is placed between Nr.2 and Nr.4 (in mining chronology and geographic matter) and is also inactive. One reason Nr.3 has been closed was a massive land slide in the southern part of the quarry.
The "new" active quarry is placed between the villages Niedertiefenbach and Hofen NE of the country road (L3022).
Actually there has been also ancient underground mining for manganese minerals on this area.
