Located around the town of Zittau, but some outcrops stray across the border into Chech Republic to the south and Poland to the NE. The field includes lava flows, lava lakes, lava domes, vents, plugs, dikes, scoria cones and maars, although the volcanic morphology was much modified during the Quaternary, particularly by glaciation, often making the interpretation of forms difficult and most fine-grained pyroclastic material has been eroded (Büchner et al. 2015).
