Active low-temperature fumaroles on eastern crater rim. Currently, temperatures of these fumaroles are between 70°C and 80 °C, and their chemistry reflects the composition of the air so that, in such conditions, there is no deposition of minerals. In 1952, 8 years after the 1944 eruption, temperatures could still reach ca. 600°C and in 1960 they settled in the range 300-450°C (Parascandola, 1959 and 1960). This fumarole area, named "prima macchia gialla intercraterica" (literally, "first intercrateric yellow spot") by Parascandola, produced large amounts of cotunnite and tenorite.
The fumarole B5 (temperature ca. 80°C) is the type locality for parascandolaite (Demartin et al., 2014) and sbacchiite (Campostrini et al., 2019).
