A Cu-Ag-Au-Pb-Zn-Mn-Mo-V mine located in the SW ¼ sec. 3 & the N ½ sec. 10, T23S, R15E, at 4,292 feet of altitude. Owned at times, or in part, by Stockton; Backman & Merritt Mines Co.; Monarch Mining & Milling Co.; Taft Mining & Exploration Co.; Melville Syndicate; Newcomer; and, Cummings. Coordinates updated February, 2008, using a hand held Garmin GPS unit (at the adit portal) by Ronald Deblois.

Mineralization is lenses of argentiferous galena with minor chalcopyrite and sphalerite in a quartz, psilomelane, and gouge gangue in fissure-zone veins, oxidized to cerussite, acanthite, and rich chlorargyrite pockets. The wall rock is strongly sheared and fractured Precambrian rock intruded by Jurassic granite. A major fault passes through the area and a Northeast-striking fracture zone contains weak, oxidized sulfide mineralization. Psilomelane often contains lead and silver values.

Workings include an adit at the bottom of a wash. There are no additional workings to surface. The adit proceeds straight in about 100 feet (30 meters), then spreads out into several additional tunnels trending in the same general direction. The low, narrow, arched adit is evidence of the fact that it was opened up and worked by Mexicans prior to 1880 but mainly from 1910 through 1942, producing in total some 200 tons of ore averaging about 70 oz. Ag/T, 25% Pb and minor Cu & Au.

CAUTION: This mine was found to contain a skunk, wild pig droppings and a resident rattlesnake (2008).
