A town situated on the Naugatuck River in the Western Uplands of Connecticut, underlain by metamorphic rocks, particularly the Devonian-Silurian The Straits Schist. Coordinates are for the center of town.

Andalusite
Formula: Al2(SiO4)O
Habit: elongated prismatic
Description: Former crystals to 9 cm pseudomorphed by very fine-grained kyanite and muscovite in quartz matrix. Found in a glacially transported rock near State Routes 8 and 63 (Interchange 26), the in-situ source rock is unknown. These pseudomorphs are rare and unusual, E. S. Dana reported similar pseudomorphs at the kyanite locality in Washington, Connecticut (aka, Judd's Bridge). Unaltered andalusite was historically reported only from Litchfield.

Description: One doubly-terminated 6 mm crystal in quartz next to andalusite pseudomorphed by very fine-grained kyanite and muscovite.

Description: Single hexagonal crystal a few mm across found in quartz with andalusite crystals to 9 cm pseudomorphed by very fine-grained kyanite and muscovite. Found in a glacially transported rock near State Routes 8 and 63 (Interchange 26), the in-situ source rock is unknown.

Description: Very fine-grained kyanite and muscovite pseudomorphing andalusite crystals to 9 cm. Found in a glacially transported rock near State Routes 8 and 63 (Interchange 26), the in-situ source rock is unknown. These pseudomorphs are rare and unusual, E. S.
