As the seat of the municipal administration, Reichenbach is the capital of the municipality of Lautertal (Odenwald) in the district of Bergstraße in Hesse and its largest district in terms of population. It is (as the crow flies) 50 kilometers south of Frankfurt am Main and 33 kilometers north of Heidelberg.

Silicified baryte vein including copper ores, trending from Teufelsstein mountain (about 1.5 km WNW of Reichenbach) to Katzenstein mountain (near Raidelbach, about 2.5 km ESE of Reichenbach). The different outcrops are numbered, starting with point 1.0 about 150 m WNW of Teufelsstein summit and continuing in an east-southeastern direction to point 21.0 near the summit of Katzenstein mountain. In the past, the points 5.0, 8.0 and 9.0 near Borstein summit, points 14.0 and 16.1 at Hohenstein mountain and point 20.0 near Katzenstein summit were worked for quartz slabs by local gravestone manufacturers. Mineralogically, these outcrops were the most productive, since most of the rare secondary minerals only occur at greater depth. Today, these quarries are completely backfilled.

On both sides of the baryte vein, at a distance of about 1 m, copper ores were enriched in oxidation and cementation zones to a width of 10-25 cm. From 1840 to 1944, these deposits were worked intermittently at some places between Hohenstein and Katzenstein mountains. What remained of these workings has been landscaped as well.
