Sn-Ag veins hosted in red argillaceous sandstone.

Note: Vivianite crystals were discovered a few hundred meters away on June 20th 2003, and three new adits have been dug exclusively for vivianite specimen mining, but these are on the neighboring Tomokoni mine (qv) property, although many dealer labels erroneously list it as Canutillos. Similarly for the phosphophyllite specimens, which are not really from the Infiernillos mine proper, but rather from near-surface diggings in sterile unmineralized country rock nearby.
(The Infiernillos mine is sometimes considered to be a "section" of the Canutillos mine, or the main access to the Canutillos mine, or a mine in its own right within the "Canutillos district", none of which is of other than semantic importance.)
