Abandoned quarries of Cretaceous limestones along the left side of the Vaio Galina (or Vajo Galina) valley, drained by Progno Galina (or Progno Gallina).
Pyrite forms large golden nodules, sometimes deeply altered to brown limonite, in marly-calcareous levels of the Scaglia Variegata Formation (Lower Aptian-Lower Turonian). Calcite appears as druses of scalenohedral crystals in the limestone fissures.
