The Dust Devil mine is an unpatented lode mining claim located on a deposit of calcium-rich plagioclase phenocrysts which is hosted in basalt flows. The mine produces gem quality plagioclase, some of which contains inclusions of copper parallel to the principal cleavage-plane, which causes an optical effect called schiller, often referred to as Oregon Sunstone.
