Historic gold mine.
The mine was worked intermittently from 1875 until 1910. The Champion Mines Limited developed the mine during its latter years. A 10 stamp battery was erected in 1906, although it had only produced 198 ounces of gold by the end of 1910. Champion Consols, Champion West, Champion North, Temple Bar, and Day Dawn were leases mentioned as associated with the mine.
The country rock is rhyolite tuff, with much andesite hosting the Champion reef, which is actually an almost vertical silicified breccia intrusion, described historically as a pipe. The intrusion contains a network of white crystalline quartz veinlets, containing disseminated and cube pyrite, electrum filaments containing Au-Ag values, and small fragments of carbonised wood.
