Uranium exploration pits and trenches dug by SOMIREN in 1957 in a highly altered granite at Bosco del Corvo, along the left side of Vallone Freddo.
According to Dall'Aglio et al. (1974), the autunite occurrences of the Sila Plateau (as Bosco del Corvo, Cozzo del Principe, and Gallopane) do not show a genetic tie with possible primary uranium occurrences in the reduced state. The precipitation of autunite, which is still precipitating above the present water table, into the rock lithoclases and lacustrine coarse sediments is due to the leaching of crystalline rocks (granodiorites varyingly intruded by aplites, pegmatites and by quartz-monzonitic batholites), in which the average uranium content is 2-3 ppm, under particular erosion and weathering conditions.
