Pegmatite on the side of a steep hill averaging 30 feet wide, and 2000 feet long. Worked by an open cut and two drives. The pegmatite contains fine to medium grain sparse quartz crystals, orthoclase, albite (with twinning), microcline, perthite, muscovite, graphic pegmatite, with some small schorl crystals and beryl. Ruby mica is (some stained black from hematite) concentrated on a 5 foot thick Hanging Wall zone, but is not plentiful. The Hanging Wall is well defined, dipping west, as opposed to the country rock which dips 80 degrees south. (Rochow) way back in 1962 states large clear green mica books are common, but present status unknown. Colourless and golden transparent calcite crystals are reported in the area.
The Maghini name is based on a fossicking map produced by the Northern Territory government which marks Maghini's at about the same location as what Rochow calls Kong Mine South Workings. Sentino or Santino Maghini was active in the area in the late 1930's, and specifically The Commonwealth Government Gazette 13/04/1939, states he took out a lease 3 miles west of the Mount Riddock Station.
