Located at Western Bluff, a small east-west trending range between the Haasts Bluff community, and hill by the same name. The deposit is on the lower slopes at the south-west part of the range, described as at the edge of the boulder field coming off the range. Bonzle names the deposit Nickel Hill, however Ahmad et al, states that the Ulpuruta prospect 2.5 kilometres to the south-east, was once called Nickel Hill.
The deposit is hosted by the Iwupataka Metamorphic Complex. Discovered by BMR in 1956. Malachite and cuprite is associated with Fe oxides and epidote, in coarse to medium grained amphibolite, calc-silicate and marble. The deposit strikes for 100 metres, up to 12 metres wide, with grades up to 27.7%Cu, 0.8 g/t Au, and 1.9% Zn.
On the surface is found malachite, azurite, chalcopyrite, with quartz, carbonate, magnetite, and Fe rich mineralisation, confined to a 2 metre wide horizon. Malachite and azurite is found in the oxidised amphibolite, while chalcopyrite and pyrite is found in the marble and calc-silicate.
As is usual with prospects on aboriginal land, permission to visit is needed from the local community.
