Located 60 kilometres east south-east of the Wyloo pastoral station homestead. The site consists of two small quarries, only 3 metres deep, on a low west north-west trending ridge. Dimension stone- marble. It was owned and operated by Marbloc (W.A.) Pty Ltd, from 1987, then from 1998 Whitecrest Enterprises. Most of the mining occurred in the late 1980's.
Cheela Marble is also known by the marketing term Capricorn Grey.
Most marble found in Western Australia is dolomitic. However, Cheela is the exception being calcitic marble. Dolomitic marble is considered harder and better quality, however calcitic marble is better known overseas.
Cheela marble is foliated very fine grained calcitic marble, containing variable amounts of structures, including small folds, filled fractures, white calcite veins and stylolites. The deposit dips 50 degrees north-east.
There is considerable colour variation in the marble from light to dark grey, cream, pink and grey-green.
An example of the product can be found as floor tiles in Anzac House St. Georges Terrace Perth.
