Microscopic minerals in siliceous rocks in Stanley Shale.
Tectonics: Ouachita Mountains
Commodity: Discovered by dr. Charles milton and ed dwornik through scanning electron miscroscopy in october of 1987
Deposit: Ovoid concretion-like structures 5-30 cm long in shale about 20-35 m above base of stanley shale are near top of hot springs sandstone member. Although sturctures resemble corals, no definitive biogenic origin has been accepted. Grains of native ruthenium were found by SEM examination of these concretions known occurrences of native ruthenium are extremely rare ; info.src : 1 pub lit; 2 unpub rept
Development: Ru occurrence has no known economic value. It was found As part of a scientific study
Geology: Part of unit was originally volcanic ash. Lamprophyre is a fe W hundred meters from main site and is lower in the stanley shale.
