The relatively uncommon species ardennite occurs in quartz veins in pinkish piermontite schist. The chemically complex ardennite occurs in crack seal quartz veins in a quartz-albite-piermontite-spessartine-phengitehematite-chlorite-rutile-tourmaline-calcite schist of the Haast Schist Group.

(Coombs, et. al., 1993) states it is the first time boron has been detected in ardennite.

Late stage veins formed under less oxidised conditions contain chlorite, albite and manganoan calcite. Digenite with lesser intergrown covellite occurs in minor amounts in the manganoan calcite, with chalcopyrite and native copper in other late stage veins.

Ardennite and associated minerals formed from highly oxidised Fe-Mn oxides, and hydroxide bearing siliceous pelagic sediments.

Ornamental stone was once extracted here, it is assumed a pinkish quartzite schist for stone masonry. The area contains many small acreages.
