Pizzo Scalino, Valle di Campo Moro, Lanzada, Val Lanterna, Valmalenco (Val Malenco), Valtellina, Sondrio, Lombardia, Italia
Iron and manganese mineralisations in quartzite and quartz schist, belonging to the sedimentary cover of the Margna nappe, cropping out on the Pizzo Scalino summit.
For minerals of the quartz-albite fissures in paragneiss from the area of Campagneda Pass-Il Cornetto (Cornetto del Pizzo Scalino) see the relevant sublocality (http://www.mindat.org/loc-259338.html).
Note:
Specimens of realgar and associated minerals from Pizzo Canciano (http://www.mindat.org/loc-27322.html) in some collections are incorrectly labelled as from Pizzo Scalino, probably due to misidentification of the Pizzo Scalino Glacier with Pizzo Scalino. The realgar deposit is actually located on the Pizzo Canciano north slope, at an elevation of about 2730 m, at the bottom of the Pizzo Scalino Glacier (i.e. about 2 km NE of Pizzo Scalino summit).
