The Governor Broome prospect is 25 kilometres east of Augusta, near the Governor Broome Road after which it is named after.
The site is on the Scott Coastal Plain. It was explored by Metal Sands Ltd 2005 to 2007. Inferred JORC Resource 154.3 Mt at 4.3 HM. A feasibility study suggests a 30 year mine life averaging 4.1 HM, with 150 000 tpa ilmenite, 4000 tpa rutile, 11 000 tpa leucoxene, 5000 tpa garnet and 11 000 tpa zircon.
The deposits occupy the palaeo Warren shorelines in a north trending embayment, within the Warren Beds and Warnbro (pronounced 'Warnbra') Group sediments. Mineralisation is at the base of the Warren Sands, up to 10 metres thick, and upper few metres of the Warnbro group.
The Warren Sands is 5 to 15 metres thick, with variable clay content containing 1 to 8% HM. Common accessory minerals are garnet, pyrite, and fine coal fragments. Ilmenite dominates at 74.2%, garnet 14.7%, zircon 6.2%, pyrite 3.1% and others 1.7%.
