The Pernatty Gold Mine, known at the beginning as Pernatty Central, was developed briefly around 1920 by Adelaide based Pernatty Gold Mining Company. They took an option over the lease for 8000 pounds and 8000 fully paid shares.
F.C.F de J. Grut (more easily known as Mr. Grut in the sources) produced an independent report on the mine in 1921. The company probably wished they hadn't paid him to do so.
He dismissed out of hand the older workings as of poor value. The new lode discovered was at the north-west boundary of the lease. He stated there was no continuous length of ore, and was of poor value. 'The mine hardly appears at the moment to be suitable for a company to work' he concluded.
The company stated there were two converging lodes, one north-south, the other east-west(?) forming two sides of a triangle, with shafts sunk at the base of each line. The Pernatty Consols lease adjoined to the south-east.
The company limped along until 1924, when the mine was leased to tributers for twelve months.
Neil Hansen and Stevenson took over the lease in 1929, and for several years were producing crushings. In 1934, a Melbourne syndicate took over the lease from Hansen for 24 000 pounds.
At present Pernatty is an open pit and underground decline, about one kilometre north-east of the Mount Martin Road and Kalgoorlie-Kambalda Road intersection.
