Whirling Dervish Underground
Located 1 kilometre north of the Carosue Dam processing plant (located in City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Shire, as an open pit, and more recently underground mining.
The deposit is an ore zone 25 to 30 metres wide, grading at approximately 3 g/t. It is hosted by volcaniclastic sandstone, intermediate tuffs and porphyry units.
Gold is strongly associated with hematite-silica-sericite alteration. The deposit is dominated by a north-west striking Footwall domain up to 30 metres wide. The Hanging Wall mineralisation is less continuous and narrower. Mineralisation is terminated at the south end by the Osman Fault.
Mining has occurred from 2010 to at least 2015, developing a pit 130 metres deep. Mining has gone underground in recent times.
An underground decline now works through the pit.
