The Dirt Pot Lead Smelt Mill was built by the Blacketts early in the 18th century. It mainly smelted ores from Allenheads and Coalclough, but capacity was supplemented by ores from Weardale until it closed in 1870. The 342 ft flue and peat house are all that remain intact.
