Paddington South
Minnie Palmer was a well known American theatre actress from the late 1800's. She did tour Australia in 1886, so the original prospectors may not necessarily have been American. Little information could be found for the mine's early years. One source states it was briefly renamed Paddington South in 1898. A 10 head battery was on the lease. In 1902 it was taken over by the Standard Exploration Company, with several other local leases, as part of American Whittaker Wright's fraudulent speculating empire.
H.M. Ross had worked the mine during its early years, and returned in 1935 with his sons. They erected a 5 head battery, about half the low grade ore coming from the mine, the other half crushing for local prospectors. Apart from the main shaft, the lease also contained a large open cut, with ore hauled to the plant by an inclined tramway. Ten men were employed.
Minnie Palmer was one of the historic mines, destroyed when the large Paddington Pit was developed in 1985. It was located roughly where the Paddington 2 ore body was discovered at the southern end of the pit.
