Ordinary Chondrite, Low-Iron (L6)
Find, 1978; 1.513 kg
A single stone was recovered from the Myrdalsbreen glacier. Originally classified as an olivine-hypersthene chondrite and subsequently simply listed as an L6 ordinary chondrite (low bulk iron, equilibrated silicates) the meteorite has not received much attention in the international literature. The main mass has been at the Mineral-Geological museum in Oslo.
The formal geographical co-ordinates are given those of Myrdals Lake. Leikanger is one of 13 Norwegian meteorites (including 9 witnessed falls) currently listed at the Meteoritical Bulletin Database (December 2015).
