The mine is 15 kilometres south-east of Marvel Loch, in an area known as Burbidge, named after an early mining pioneer in the area. During the 1980's, Sons of Gwalia Ltd developed a series of small pits 50-80 metres deep over a 7 kilometre strike. Total production from all the pits was 450 Kt at 1.6 g/t yielding 27 Koz.
The mine is about 500 metres west of the large Great Victoria pit. The pit is less than 100 metres south-west of the Brumby pit, and less than 100 metres north-east of the Bronco South pit. It appears the Bronco pit has been filled in with waste rock from neighbouring operations at the time of writing. Some of the nine pits in this area are modern developments, while others like Bronco were over old historic shafts.
The main mine at the location was the Bronco Horseshoe, while neighbouring Bronco Links had a less extensive history. Mine maps also list Bravo as a modern name at some point for the location.
The first report found of crushings was 1914, by the Bronco Horseshoe Proprietary Company led by well known mining identity A.E. Morgans. However by the end of the year, the Bronco Horseshoe was under exemption. Bronco Horseshoe appears to go through several ownerships.
It was being mined by tributers in 1915 and 1916, as Turner, Mooney, Cummings and Corrigan (surnames). The Mararoa Company had an option over the mine in 1917, and is erecting condensers, a winding winch and boilers. In 1920, it is reported the Bronco Horseshoe syndicate has been reconstructed and the mine is operational again. The lease was forfeited in 1924. The lease was 120 acres on a large low grade lode.
The mine next springs to life in 1934, as the Prince George, employing 30 men. This was under the Marvel Loch Gold Mining Company, but by 1939 it is owned by Anglo Australian and General Investment Trust Limited, who are applying for an exemption over the mine.
