Ordinary chondrite, unequilibrated (L/LL3.10; S2; W2)
Find, 1990; 287 g

The small, somewhat weathered Adrar 003 stone is one of the least equilibrated of meteorites. Well-defined and abundant chondrules [3mm to < 50 µm], usually porphyritic and dominated by olivine and/or pyroxene (PO,POP,PP), are set in an opaque matrix. Smaller aggregates of Fe-Ni metal and sulfides (up to 500 µm) are also present with rims that often abut the matrix. Both olivine (Fo69-93) and pyroxene (En95-76) are quite variable. Plagioclase is usually anorthitic. Small high-temperature spinel-rich inclusions are present — a few with pre-solar nanodiamonds and silicon carbide grains. Two silicon nitrides are present and unusually high bulk deuterium ratios and very unusual nitrogen isotopes in diamonds indicate a complex and unusual history. The small and somewhat weathered opaques have not been well characterized in much of the published literature.

Precise classification of chondrites as type 3.10 is somewhat new. Only petrologic types 3.0 and 3.05 are considered more primitive (less metamorphosed). Adrar 003 is the only meteorite currently listed as 'L/LL3.10'. However, as of August 2015, over 10 meteorites have been classified as either H3.10, L3.10, L/LL3.10, or LL3.10.
