NOTE: The geographic coordinates presented are approximate based on the description provided. There are no quarry symbols on the topo map near the area described.

Mineralization is hosted in fractured Franciscan cherts containing Mn mineralization.

Description: Undivided Mesozoic volcanic and metavolcanic rocks. Andesite and rhyolite flow rocks, greenstone, volcanic breccia and other pyroclastic rocks; in part strongly metamorphosed. Includes volcanic rocks of Franciscan Complex: basaltic pillow lava, diabase, greenstone, and minor pyroclastic rocks.

Comments: Coast Ranges. Jurassic to Cretaceous volcanic rocks of Franciscan Complex: basaltic pillow lava, diabase, greenstone, and minor pyroclastic rocks. Includes blueschist-grade metabasalt schist. Also includes small areas of volcanic rocks associated with Coast Range ophiolite

Stratigraphic Name: Franciscan Complex

Description: Greenstone: Similar to unit Jfg, except crops out as small, discrete masses as long as 1.5 km. In southern Marin County and parts of San Francisco, crops out as well-bedded pillow lavas and minor intrusive diabase that forms lowest exposed portion of section; overlain by chert and graywacke and repeated several times by faulting (Wahrhaftig, 1984); smaller masses are hard and relatively unfractured, but larger masses typically are closely fractured or sheared, are softened by weathering, and bear distinctive red soil.
