Most gold mines on the Boogardie field began between 1892 to 1896. Paris was a late starter being developed in 1899. It was founded by prospectors P. McAlinden and Tolmie. The mine was midway between the more re-known Morning Star and New Chum Mines.
By February 1900 the shaft was down to 24 feet, and the sum total of ore raised was 129 tonnes for 454 oz at 13 dwt. The lode contained a high percentage of manganese. One source who clearly wasn't a geologist stated the ore was a pinkish stone with a large quantity of fine gold.
All fell silent after 1900, but in 1939 the Mount Magnet Gold Mines Ltd took over the Paris group of leases for modern development. The mine was in the vicinity of what modern mining companies call the Black Cat South pit, just south-east of the large Morning Star open cut.
