Communauté de communes de l'Isle Crémieu (east of Lyon).
The "communauté de communes " is a grouping of a certain number of adjacent communes (cities), allowing them to share public services like waste management, fire service as well as pools, sports facilities, schools...
By now (2015) there are 21 communes belonging to "l'Isle Crémieu", amongst them Crémieu.[in 1]
In our field of interest, "l'Isle Crémieu" is a geological area referring to a limestone plateau.
Several quarries either closed and filled or flooded, either still in operation, are found in this area yielding limestone for various uses (building material, lime, cement, aggregate, lithography...) depending on the geological stage (Oxfordian, Bathonian, Bajocian)[Ref 2]
All quarries from this area are at the moment listed under this locality on Mindat, but feel free to add a sublocality for any particular quarry, provided reliable information is available.
Calcite crystals of various habits are found from time to time in these quarries, alongside fossils like belemnites and ammonites.
Incidentally, A. Lacroix (Minéralogie de la France et de ses colonies, tome 3, vol 2, Paris 1909) doesn't quote any locality under "calcite" (pp. 417-587) in this area.
