The main mine at the Eidsvoll Gold Mines.
The NGU describes this mine as such:
"The mine comprises four open pits, one inclined shaft and one vertical shaft, which connect the underground workings down to 100 m with surface. A total of about 50 000 tonnes of crude ore containing 2-15 g/t Au was produced from the Brustad mine. The ore mineralisation is located on a nearly 1500 m long ESE-WNW-trending system of milky quartz veins which only in its easternmost 400 m, where the mine is located, carry sulphides and associated native gold. The veins in the mine area are 0,1-4 metres thick with normal thicknesses in the range 1-2 metres. They dip 50º-70º north and intersect granitic augen gneisses and mylonites in the Brustad mine and an amphibolitic gabbro sill (hyperite) in the Lovisa mine to the west, where only low-grade ores occur (1-2 g/t Au)."
The relief maps shows that the mines are indeed situated on a rather straight line over a distance of ca. 440 m.
There is a problem with the NGU coordinates/mine names. They define the Brustad mine as the main mine. But the coordinates do not correspond in any logical way for Brustad and Stollpåhug. The decimal and UTM coordinates for Brustad are different. The decimal coordinates for Brustad and Stollpåhug are identical, while the UTM coordinates for Stollpåhaug correspond with the decimal coordinates for both. The UTM coordinates for Brustad are for a smaller open pit 36 m to the west. Lacking better data at this point in time, I use only the decimal coordinates, knowing that this has to be corrected (EGeological Survey of Norway. The Ore Database. Deposit Area 237 - 005.
