Iron meteorite, hexahedrite (IIAB)
Fall, 20 Nov 1986; 10.2 kg

During the evening a fireball was seen while 3 detonations followed by an approaching din were heard. The next morning a single mass of Fe-Ni metal (5.3% Ni) was recovered from a meter deep inclined pit. The meteorite consists predominantly of kamacite. Etchings reveal Neumann bands indicative of preterrestrial or impact shock. A few troilite inclusions were noted and, in the interior, tiny rhabditic needles (schreibersite) are common. A thin black fusion crust marked by cavities, furrows, and regmaglypts consists primarily of magnetite with lesser wüstite. An argon-38 exposure age of ~275 Ma has been determined.

IIAB irons are the 3rd most abundant type of iron meteorites and represent ~ 12% of all classified irons. By the end of 2014 a total of 123 recoveries of IIAB meteorites had been made, but Raghunathpura is the most recent of only 6 witnessed falls.
