Iron meteorite, octahedrite (IIIAB, Om)
Fell, October 1918; 1.050 kg
A mass of unknown weight was reported to have fallen, but only a single ~ 1 kg mass (~11 x 7 x 5 cm) was recovered from a 1.2 m wide hole. One side is described as fractured and hacky, the other side is marked with regmaglypts. The meteorite itself contains long Kamacite lamellae with Neumann bands accompanied by both taenite and plessite. Minor amounts of schreibersite, troilite, and daubréelite are also reported. A very large cosmic ray exposure (CRE) age of > 900 million years is reported for Norfork.
Norfork is one of the smaller of 11 witnessed IIIAB falls. About half the mass is with Arizona State University in Tempe.
