Note on locality name: The name of the nearest village is spelled "La Chapelle en Valgaudemar" by the authorities of the local municipality. An alternate spelling with "Valgaudémar" can also be found in various sources, although it does not match the valley name: Valgaudemar (spelled Valgodemard in the names of the two villages Saint-Maurice-en-Valgodemard and Saint-Jacques-en-Valgodemard).
"(Coming from Saint-Firmin-en-V.). North of Gap on the 'Route Napoléon' (N85) until Saint-Firmin. Follow the D985A. Opposite La Chapelle, to the south, is the town of Les Portes. After passing through the town, there is an old mine with arsenopyrite, bournonite, chalcocite, covellite, galena, limonite, malachite, pyrite, quartz, tetrahedrite, and 'zincite blanche' [ = hydrozincite?]." [Belot, 1978]
"Following the road, one arrives at the village of Navette. Turn left onto a road to the Torrent de Tempier where, not far from a waterfall on the right riverbank, there is chalcopyrite, covellite, goethite, hematite, pyrite, and quartz." [Belot, 1978]
"At Les Orcettes, near another waterfall on the left, there is chalcopyrite, covellite, galena, limonite, quartz, and tetrahedrite." [Belot, 1978]
"At the 'Crête de la Chauvetane' [Chauvetane ridge] there are old galleries and dumps with bournonite, calcite, chalcopyrite, galena, hematite, jamesonite, pyrargyrite, pyrite, pyrrhotite, and sphalerite." [Belot, 1978]
"Continuing on the D480 from La Chapelle, one arrives at Le Bourg and Combe-du-Bourg where one can collect azurite, calcite, chalcopyrite, dolomite, and malachite in old workings." [Belot, 1978]
"Next on the same D480 is Rif-du-Sap with, to the right of the Severaisse river and near a chalet, dumps with anglesite, baryte, cerussite, covellite, galena, malachite, and tetrahedrite." [Belot, 1978]

There are thick yellow gemmy plates of analysed Wakabayashilite that are easiliy misidentifified as orpiment Vincent Bourgoin commented:
'Orpiment is a mineral highly questionable to Jas Roux because it has never been analyzed.
It is cited in the BRGM inventory and by Mantienne without having ever been the subject of analysis (personal confirmation that I had from M. Mantienne who did his thesis on this deposit).
Some wakabayashilite plates are so thick and gemmy that they can sometimes make you think of the orpiment." |

Geochronology
Mineralization age: Miocene : 18.3 Ma to 13.4 MaImportant note: This table is based only on rock and mineral ages recorded on mindat.org for this locality and is not necessarily a complete representation of the geochronology, but does give an indication of possible mineralization events relevant to this locality. As more age information is added this table may expand in the future. A break in the table simply indicates a lack of data entered here, not necessarily a break in the geologic sequence. Grey background entries are from different, related, localities.
