"The Franklin group of mines is situated on Webster Spur about 2.7km east of Woods Point. The deposit was discovered in 1865. The mine was worked at three different periods:1868-1883,1899-1909 and 1932-1942, the last operation coming to a halt when all the mining equipment was auctioned by the Victorian Mines Department for the sum of $10. The total production probably reached 30,000 oz. of gold.
From the top of Webster Spur to the latest worked prospect (North Sir John Franklin), numerous indications of intense prospecting, alluvial and reef mining can be traced on both sides of the spur. Half way down, the former Never Mind tramway leads on the eastern side to the main workings. The adit penetrates about 400 m in to the hill, in an intricate network of waterlogged tunnels in which fragile mud and carbonate stalactites occur."
