Located in the northern part of Caraş-Severin County.
Old iron ore mines and smelting dating from 17th and 18th centuries.

Rhyolitic volcanic bodies, originating from the lower Carboniferous, being responsible for the Pb+Zn ore formation. The latest sedimentary formations dating from the Mezozoic: Jurassic limestones and Cretaceous marl layers. This region is characterized by the presence of high-grade metamorphosed rocks that forming large lenses of greenschists alternating with amphibolite schists and gneiss formations. Also related Paleogene rocks altered by hydrothermal processes and generating high content of pyrite veins.

Worth noting in the southern mining area were reported traces of brannerite, seems to be responsible for significant radioactivity of certain areas.
