Deelfontein is an official meteorite name.
A 28kg meteorite was found in 1932 by a Mr. C.J. DeJager.
It remained in his possession for 35 years.
It is part of a larger mass that was never located.
The owner donated the majority portion to the Geological Society of South Africa.
The meteorite is classified as a coarse octahedrite, class IA, and was found in the old Cape Province which was divided up in 1994 and now falls under the newly created province of the Northern Cape.
