A manganese mine owned by Manganese Ore India, Ltd.

Photos of the blue-violet amphiboles from here are labeled magnesio-arfvedsonite as this is the dominant species found in these crystals. The amphiboles are however zoned and analyses of individual crystals may show other species.

The tan-yellowish amphiboles from here show a wide range of compositions ranging from mangano-cummingtonite, ferri-ghoseite and ferri-winchite/ferri-katophorite. Some analyses also correspond to unnamed minerals in the Na-Mn amphibole subgroup. The photos of these amphiboles are labeled ferri-ghoseite, but the specimens may contain a range of amphiboles, where ferri-ghoseite may or may not be one of them.

Description: Microprobe analyses published on Rruff.info as winchite corrosponds to the following composition (typical): (Na0.094K0.06)0.154 (Ca1.354Na0.646)2 (Mg4.123Fe20.335Mn20.227Fe20.181Al0.108Ti0.002)4.976 Si8.025O22((OH)1.828F0.167O0.004)1.999 It should be noted that the total oxide wt% is low <98%. As Fe >Al, the composition corresponds to ferri-winchite rather than winchite. The formula is normalized using Andrew J. Locock (2014): An Excel spreadsheet to classify chemical analyses of amphiboles following the IMA 2012 recommendations. Computers & Geosciences, Volume 62, pp 1-11.The formula corresponds well with the published formula on Rruff.info
