This quarry contains three sedimentary formations:
At its base, a jurassic siliceous limestone, in the middle jurassic radiolarites and cherts, and at top, other siliceous limestones of cretaceous age.
The mineral occurrences are usually found at contact between lower limestones and radiolarites.
