The gold-bearing quartz vein in this deposit was discovered in 1941 by prospectors Arthur Ward and Roy Lundmark. Lunward Gold Mines Limited explored the deposit by diamond drilling and surface stripping and trenching between 1941and1948. Underground development began in 1949 by Newlund Mines, Limited which later became Goldlund Mines, Limited.
