The largest and the oldest of the silver mines in the Kongsberg Silver Mining District. Mining was started on 18 October 1623 and the mines were in operation until mining ended in Kongsberg. The deepest shaft in Kongens Mine is 1070 meters deep (ca. 500 meters below sea level!).
The name "Kongens mine" translated in English means "the Kings mine".
