The Shire of Victoria Plains is 160 kilometres north of Perth, covers 2 569 square kilometres and contains 922 people.
The economy is based on cereal growing/sheep. As such, it is rolling wheatfields, tending more hilly in the south. The shire contains the small towns of Bolgart, Calingiri, Mogumber, Yerecoin and New Norcia. The main interest in the shire is the Benedictine community at New Norcia, the only operating monastic town in Australia. Tours run twice daily, the town has several impressive historic Spannish style buildings, an art gallery, and bakery.
