The mountain plateau called Hardangervidda covers an area that is divided by 3 counties (fylker): Hordaland, Telemark and Buskerud. Most of it belongs to the Hardangervidda National Park.

Hardangervidda, especially the western part, also called Hardangervidda West in recent mineralogical literature, which belongs to the Hordaland County, is famous for producing good specimens of anatase and quartz.

Several small quartz producing localities (alpine clefts), a few also with anatase are known from this area.
The localities that have produced most specimens are Matskorhæ , now protected and Dyrfonni.

NOTE: Some of the localities of anatase and quartz are located inside the Hardangervidda National Park, and collecting and removing minerals is strictly forbidden there.

NOTE: Part of the Ullensvang municipality doesn't belong to the Hardangervidda area, and the localities in the area outside Hardangervidda are listed under Ullensvang, Hordaland.
