Parnell Grit outcrop to the west of the beach access. Collecting should be restricted to below the high tide mark. Zeolitised clasts in the beds are derived from the Manukau stratovolcano with some input from the Kaipara stratovolcano - both of these are of Miocene age and apart from the uplifted fault block forming the Waitakere Ranges they now only exist as magnetic anomalies.
Note that material from here is badly weathered.
