Enstatite Chondrite, low-iron [EL6; S2]

Found just 3 days after a very loud fall, Hvittis is the second most massive low-iron Enstatite chondrite. Enstatite Chondrites are marked by overall sub-solar Mg/Si ratios, near terrestrial oxygen-isotope ratios, and highly reduced mineral assemblages. Metallic iron is abundant in all Enstatite Chondrites (~10 vol%). However, the EL chemical group is low in iron relative to the high-iron (EH) chemical group. EL Enstatite Chondrites are further distinguished from EH chondrites by moderately large chondrules (0.6 mm) and a mineral assemblage which invariably contains ferroan alabandite. Metamorphic events have homogenized the EL6 chondrites and obliterated many chondrule outlines.
