Río Tercero, Departamento Tercero Arriba, Córdoba, Argentina
Río Tercero is a city located on the Tercero River in the Tercero Arriba Department of Córdoba Province (Argentina).
Alluvial monazite deposit; flood halogenic and current.
Extensively investigated over a width of 100-150 meters and 1-2 meters of depth.
The Río Tercero is a permanent watercourse which travels approximately W-E in his first 40 kilometers and NW-SE in the remaining course.
The river joins the Saladillo River at about 230 kilometres from its namesake reservoir to form the Carcarañá river which flows into the Paraná River.
During the 1970s, different studies were done.
The researched section of the river shows monazite development over 100 kilometres, from a few kilometres to the West of the city of Rio Tercero to some 10 kilometres downstream of the city of Villa María, staying between the Departments of Calamuchita, Tercero Arriba and General San Martín.
On a 100 km course, 12 samples were taken at approximately 10 km equidistance from each other.
This took place through wells opened from the surface to the water mirror and their depth according to the sites ranged from 1.7 meters maximum and 0.4 metres in a single case, as a minimum. About 100 kilograms of material with which samples were prepared for this study registered a low content in monazite and zircon.
Certain sectors are exploited for Garnet.
Average ThO2: 51 grams/tonne or 1,400 monazite grams per tonne.
Mineral Reserves: 14,500,000 tonnes of ore (possible + probable).
Mineralization, dense fraction: Garnet, Monazite, Ilmenite, Zircon, Magnetite, etc...
