Mina el Borracho (Mina el Borracho Viejo), Garlitos, Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain
El Borracho mining area is one of the most interesting areas from a geological point of view of the region, since the same overlap in various formation processes of rock and metallic ores, together with a unique landscape, conditioned by the encasement in the Esteras river.
There are two different mineralization:
- El Borracho mine (or El Borracho Viejo mine)
extend parallel to the Esteras river valley. Its proximity to this was that the work had to be abandoned, at certain depths because the drain was impossible. In this work they worked the Sergio vein, with more than 1,100m. lenght, and with thick to 4 meters. There are other veins studied in 80's: Atanasio, Muro, Prolongación Sergio and Prolongación Atanasio. The mineralization is argentiferous galena, with pyrite and quartz-carbonate gangue.
- El Borracho Nuevo mine El Borracho Nuevo mine is another mineralization consisting by two main veins: Perla y Esperanza–Potentes. Mineralization is argentiferous galena. The mining operations were active until the 70's and the most important was the Perla shaft.
