Vorobyovy Gory (sometimes literally translated into English as Sparrow Hills) is a hilly area on the high right bank of the Moskva River, from the mouth of the Setun’ River to Andreyevsky Bridge, and one of the highest points in Moscow. The observation platform, which gives a good panoramic view of the city, is on a steep bank at 85 m above the river, or 200 m above sea level. The main landmarks of Vorobyovy Gory, named after the former village of Vorobyovo [Воробьёво], are the Lomonosov State University and the Trinity Church.
Outcrops of Jurassic and Cretaceous rocks have been observed. The Jurassic association includes phosphorite, glauconite, and pyrite; the Cretaceous association includes quartz and limonite. Calcite appears on the surface in the form of significant accumulations of grey travertine.
