"The Woodcuters Mine is located astride the Stuart Highway 80 km south Darwin. Primary sulphide reserves containing possible economic grades of lead, zinc and silver were first delineated in 1967. The deposits are found both stratiform and transgressive within shales and dolomites of the Golden Dyke formation. Open cut mining of the largest orebody commenced in 1985 the underground. There was no clearly definable oxide zone."
Rehabilitated in 2005.

ⓘ Anatase Formula: TiO2 |
ⓘ 'Apatite' Formula: Ca5(PO4)3(Cl/F/OH) |
ⓘ Arsenopyrite Formula: FeAsS |
ⓘ Bornite Formula: Cu5FeS4 |
ⓘ Boulangerite Formula: Pb5Sb4S11 |
ⓘ Cassiterite Formula: SnO2 |
ⓘ Cerussite Formula: PbCO3 Description: Cerussite is the most common secondary ore mineral at the Woodcutters deposit. Single tabular clear crystals up to 6mm long are the most common form of cerussite, also twinned form have been reported up to 2cm. The cerussite crystals at Woodcutters are usually attached to primary sulphide matrix or enclosed in fine grained massicot and scorodite or found in quartz veins. |
ⓘ Chalcopyrite Formula: CuFeS2 |
ⓘ Cobaltite Formula: CoAsS |
ⓘ Corkite Formula: PbFe3(PO4)(SO4)(OH)6 Description: Corkite was noted at a single locality from the top of the orebody. It occurred as fine lustrous brown crystals (<0.5mm) coating surfaces and in stalactite structures in vuggy portions of iron rich gossan. References: |
ⓘ Covellite Formula: CuS |
ⓘ Digenite Formula: Cu9S5 |
ⓘ Dolomite Formula: CaMg(CO3)2 |

ⓘ Mimetite Formula: Pb5(AsO4)3Cl Description: Mimetite was noted only from an isolated pocket on top of the orebody. The mimetite occurred as small 0.5mm milky white hemispheres scattered on a gossan surface. A second form for mimetite was translucent grey hexagons up to 1mm diameter. References: |
ⓘ Muscovite Formula: KAl2(AlSi3O10)(OH)2 |
ⓘ Pyrite Formula: FeS2 |
ⓘ Pyromorphite Formula: Pb5(PO4)3Cl Description: Pyromorphite forms as curved yellow crystals up to 2mm diameter, occurring in the uppermost portion of the orebody. The pyromorphite sits directly on earthy massicot which encloses cerussite crystals and iron oxides, altered from a core of galena. References: |
ⓘ Pyrrhotite Formula: Fe1-xS |
ⓘ Sphalerite Formula: ZnS |
ⓘ Stannite Formula: Cu2FeSnS4 |

ⓘ 'Tourmaline' Formula: AD3G6 (T6O18)(BO3)3X3Z |
ⓘ Ullmannite Formula: NiSbS |
ⓘ Valentinite Formula: Sb2O3 Description: "At Woodcutters individual crystals and clusters of valentinite have been found with cerussite crystals sitting directly on fine-grained stibnite and galena. The crystals exhibit a perfect cleavage parallel to the axis. Crystals are up to 5mm in length, have a vitreous to adamantine lustre, are translucent and are light brown/grey colour. The specimens were found deeep in the open cut near the base of the orebody. The specimens occurred in a single boulder of sulphide ore found adjacent to a porous quartz vein." References: |
