LOCATION: A former Cu-Ag-Au-Pb-Zn mining district located in the San Juan Mountains, N of the Animas District and Silverton, on Bureau of Land Management wilderness land (Handies Peak Wilderness Study Area), at altitudes ranging from 9,800 feet to 13,000 feet.

GEOLOGY: Mineralization is polymetallic veins (Mineral occurrence model information: Model code 85; USGS model code 22c; Deposit model name: Polymetallic veins; Mark3 model number 46). Controls for ore emplacement included faults/fractures. Local alteration includes silicification (silicic, sericitic, propylitic). Local rocks include intra-ash flow andesitic lavas. Regional Geologic structures include the North side of the Silverton caldera along a NE-trending graben (extends from the Silverton caldera to the Lake City caldera in Hinsdale County). Part of the district extends into the central downfaulted block of the Silverton caldera. Local geologic structures include fissures and veins. Crescentic faults outline the central blocks of the Silverton caldera.
