Discovered in 1884, this little silver-lead mine has a very colourful past. It was used in some questionable dealings in relation to the Aclare mine and its shares. Two shafts and an adit were sunk during the various periods of mining here.
And while early assays gave 56% lead and 60oz silver per ton, no actual production records exist for the mine.
It is highly recommended that anyone wishing to learn about these mines and the dealings that went on behind the scenes in the colonial days of South Australia’s early mining heritage, read, ‘Silver and A Trace Of Gold’ by J.K. Chilman.
