Copper was first discovered here in 1848, at the south end of Pinkerton’s Gully. Original assays were as high as 30-40%, and several shafts and adits were sunk in search of mineral wealth. The first period of mining ceased in 1850 and the company wound up in 1855.
Several groups have mined here over the years, including the Prince Albert Syndicate (1910), from which the mine gains its alternate name. Reports vary as to when mining ceased here, with time frames varying from 1910 to 1918.
Production is estimated at in excess of 40,000 tonnes @ 5% Cu.
